Often, first aid training does not include the administration of any medications. Allergy sufferers and their parents or guardians receive advice and training in the use of auto-injectors, care workers, child carers and first aiders rarely do. Schools and EYFS Settings must arrange specialist anaphylaxis training for staff where a pupil in the school has been diagnosed as being at risk of anaphylaxis. This should include practical instruction in how to use the different AAI devices available. Online resources and e-learning modules are NOT a substitute for face-to-face training. At Child Matters, we incorporate this specific training into all our first aid courses, however some settings may wish to run this as a stand-alone course.

We offer a 100% classroom course for this and the certificate is valid for three years. This course is suitable for any person who is involved in the administration of adrenaline pens (Automatic Adrenaline Injectors AAI’s) currently Epipen, Jext pen and the Emerade Pen and anyone who needs to be aware of the signs, symptoms, and treatment of anaphylactic allergic reactions. As well as recognition of signs, treatment, concerns and activating the EMS we focus on the care for the patient in the event of deterioration. Basic Life Support and CPR skills are taught and refreshed too.
Combined with the Anaphylaxis Awareness training this course is Suitable for Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Health Care Professionals and Care Assistants / Support Workers and for all those providing vaccinations throughout the year.

Aimed at healthcare professionals who require a more advanced course in Anaphylaxis care, Anaphylaxis Awareness & Basic Life Support Level 2 Award (VTQ) course covers all the same as our standard course with the addition of the special considerations that healthcare professionals face. The course is based on the recommendations for Anaphylaxis care as laid down by the UK Resuscitation Council.
