Emergency First Aid and Self Defence Workshop
Last weekend we held a great new combined course. In collaboration with Oscar Charlie Bespoke Training, this specially designed day course in self-defence and emergency first response medical aid included First Aid as needed in the real world and an introduction to Krav Maga.
The younger generation don’t often experience serious challenges in their everyday lives, especially the challenges which lie in extreme situations. The aim of the day primarily to know fully the importance of providing timely and effective first aid care to those people who need it most.
A brief history of Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a technique of self defence that was originally used in the military but has been remastered for use in real life situations you or I could be involved in. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extreme efficiency. Krav Maga fighting system developed for the Israel Defense, is a military self-defence that derived from a combination of techniques sourced from Boxing, Wrestling, Aikido, Judo, Karate, along with realistic fight training.
The instructors have worked in various war zones over many years providing personal security for individuals and companies also, so they are absolutely at the top of their game. Currently working as front line health professionals enabled the first aid skills to be relevant.
Overview of the course
The day started with an introduction to the basic principles of self- defence and first aid but quickly accelerated in to how to defend yourself in potential real life attacks. This was a real eye opener to how best to act if you were involved in some potentially very serious incidents.
If, however, you were unable to defend yourself or others in a threatening situation or something terrible happened around you it’s best to be prepared, which is why the next stage of the day was dealing with catastrophic bleeding which included knife or bullet wounds. The practical use of tourniquets was new training for all attendees, as was the wound management with packing a wound with celox bandages. We aught and practiced how to conduct a primary survey along with initiating CPR and accessing an AED (automated, external defibrillator).
Helping in disturbances where you or someone else is suffering from shock or burns was covered – all useful tools to have in any first aid occasion if ever faced with life threatening situations.
The afternoon finished up with some self-defence practical application which gave the attendees a chance to put their new-found skills into action using role play to interact with one another and the instructors, in a safe and controlled environment.
If you would like to broaden and develop your experiences, leaving at the end of the course with a real sense of achievement, then this is the right package for you! Sign up for our next First Aid + Self Defence (Krav Maga) Course or any other courses with Child Matters here.
