Child Matters has had a busy few months with plenty of courses and public events to talk about!

Our Family First Aid Courses have been receiving great feedback. I hear parents chatting amongst themselves and repeatedly saying ‘I wish I’d done this sooner’ and ‘ everyone should be given the opportunity to attend these courses’. We’ve seen an abundance of gorgeous babies present on our courses. We don’t use real babies for practising on as we have great equipment for this, just cooing over and cuddles!! Their mums now have the confidence and skills to deal with an emergency, a rare situation but one we should all have the essential skills for. In particular parents and carers want to learn about how to deal with a choking episode. Along with your gut instinct and common sense seeing the processes and practicing the techniques of administering first aid used in this scary situation, keeps you calm and helps saves lives.

In June we gave a lot of our time loving the local community. A morning in the park demonstrating how to access and use the defibrillator was well attended (see local press article here). Many people unaware of the importance of initiating immediate CPR and locating an AED for anyone who is found unconscious and not breathing. Something that happened in this park, just weeks beforehand. A positive outcome due to the quick help administered by a bystander trained in First Aid. People of all ages, as young as 4 right up to the elderly, had a go at carrying out an initial assessment, activating help, cardiac compressions and the use of an AED (see local press article here). Great work

As we await patiently for the summer to arrive and stay for longer than 1 day we are planning all our future courses. Whether you are a childminder, nanny or someone with childcare responsibilities we have the right training for you. Accredited courses valid for 3 years through classroom and online learning. Recognised by EYFS and Ofsted our courses leave you feeling well trained and confident in the workplace.

The family course schedule for the rest of the year has just been published. If you can’t find a date and location to suit you then why not organise a private course for friends and family ‘At Home’.  View schedule here.

The newest addition to the course schedule is Flat Stan First Aid for children. We are always busy delivering courses in schools but now we have the latest child friendly equipment, manuals, stickers and certificates that every 4 -10 year old would be proud of. Essential life skills for everyone.
